LEXINGTON, KY. (March 31, 2010) — Nancy Mazzoni’s She Be Wild, champion two-year-old filly of 2009, tops a field of eight 3-year-old fillies entered Wednesday for Saturday’s 73rd running of the Central Bank Ashland Stakes (G1).
The 1 1/16-mile Central Bank Ashland, to be run over the main track, is the ninth race on Saturday’s 10-race card and is scheduled for a 5:20 p.m. post time. First post on Saturday is 1:05 p.m.
Trained by Wayne Catalano, She Be Wild has won four of five starts with the highlight coming in the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) last October at Santa Anita. Her lone defeat of 2009 came at Keeneland last fall when she finished second behind Central Bank Ashland rival Negligee in the Darley Alcibiades (G1).
Jose Lezcano will be aboard She Be Wild for the first time on Saturday and will break from post position five.
Negligee, trained by John Terranova, will be making her 2010 debut. Owned by Sovereign Stable, Negligee closed 2009 by finishing sixth behind She Be Wild in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. Rajiv Maragh has the mount Saturday on Negligee, who will break from post position three.
A third runner from last year’s Darley Alcibiades in the Central Bank Ashland field is Peter Callahan’s Beautician. Trained by Ken McPeek, the leading trainer at Keeneland’s 2009 fall meet, Beautician finished fifth in the Darley Alcibiades after a nightmarish trip. Robby Albarado has the riding assignment Saturday and will break from post position four.
The field for the Ashland, from the rail out, is as follows: Upperline (Shaun Bridgmohan), It’s Tea Time (Alan Garcia), Negligee (Rajiv Maragh), Beautician (Robby Albarado), She Be Wild (Jose Lezcano), Apple Charlotte (Corey Nakatani), Protesting (Javier Castellano) and Evening Jewel (Kent Desormeaux). All starters carry 121 pounds.
